The Blumhagen Experience

This weekend and next, on Saturdays, July 15th and the 22nd, Hive Improv is hosting Andrew Blumhagen's Intro to Improv and Let's Get Physical workshops. Andrew has been a part of our community for a while now who I've really appreciated because, besides being a skilled improviser, he comes from a background that I don't identify with too strongly myself, but that I would consider nonetheless essential.

Andrew's bio goes into his background and if you participate in his workshops, what you'll find differentiates him from other Hive Improv instructors is his emphasis of instinctive, organic, and spontaneous play. This is the perfect starting point for any new improviser and a valuable exercise for the experienced, especially when the work starts to feel a little repetitive you need an inspiration boost.

If you missed or enjoyed Philip Markle's recent workshop, I highly recommend participating in one of Andrew's upcoming workshops. There's still space, so sign up!

We're planning to have more with Andrew in the near future so keep an eye out.

Summer Courses & UCB's Toni Charline!

We are back from the Del Close Marathon in New York! Actually, I'm still in New York, but almost everyone else is back. The marathon was great! Locals definitely took notice of our pack of Berlin players busting up stages and tagging our hashes. Now to get back to business in the old country.

Emergency Workshop with UCB's Toni Charline!

All hands on deck! Toni Charline is in town from UCBTLA and she'll be teaching a 3 hour Characters for Improv Workshop on Sunday, July 9th from 15:00-18:00 at Comedy Cafe Berlin. Go register!

Summer Courses

The Summer session is now open for registration with our first 101 Improv Basics auf Deutsch, our standard 101 course now available entirely in German. We're really excited to be offering more and more content in German and this definitely won't be the end of it. For English speakers we also have 201 Intro to Game. Both courses taught by Jakob Wagner.

In the Fall we'll have more of our advanced courses available so now's your chance to get ready for them.

Expect More...

In August Comedy Cafe Berlin will be hosting the August Offensive, the 3-person long form improv tournament open to all players followed up by the Champions League Champions of the Universe Championship open only to former winners of the Offensive. Sign ups will begin soon so get your team together and get ready!

We'll also have more workshops coming this summer so check back for news!

See ya 'round,
Chris

June Workshops!

The Spring is a wrappin, and the Summer is a comin, but the action ain't quittin when the Hive is abuzz. June is going to be a big month for us. We're happy to have a group of students who have been booked to play at the Del Close Marathon in New York at the end of the month.

Harold Auditions

Don't forget that before that will be Harold team auditions! If you haven't already registered, do it now. More info available here. We will soon be publishing specific details about the auditions so keep a look out.

The August Offensive Looms Low In The Horizon...

Ye be warned! The oracle hast foretold of a blood moon rising in the days of the dog star. If June's events weren't enough now's a good time to start thinking about the August Offensive, the 3 person improv cagematch tournament that will turn one team of 3 into Berlin's latest legends and make exile of the innumerable armada laid waste by the unmerciful thrust of the pollice verso. Former winners Grill Talk and Cunt Hammer are out of the running. Will you be among the season's champions?

We still have 2 workshops available in June to prepare you for these events and you will need to act fast to participate.

Intermediate Game with Molly Thomas

Molly Thomas of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre will be teaching an intermediate game course and we still have spots of available. These will probably be going fast in the next couple of weeks so sign up. Many of you have just learned game and belong in this workshop! It's intermediate level to make sure you can all move at a good pace. Great opportunity!

Burn Your Fear with Philip Markle

Philip Markle, of the Annoyance Theatre in New York, has decided to up capacity of his Burn Your Fear workshop from 14 to 16. The first 14 spots sold out very fast so I expect it to be very competitive to grab these last 2. Do not dilly-dally. Register! No telling when we'll be lucky enough to have Markle again.

Expect news soon on our Summer workshop line-up.
